Acording to the legend, Tapas tradition began when King Alfonso of Castile, know as "the wise", recovered from an illness by drinking wine and nibbling small dishes between meals. After regaining his health, the king ordered taverns to serve their guests food along with their wine.
The history of Tapas actually began in the early 19th century in the southern region of Andalucia, where the regional drink was sweet sherry, an aperitifthat goes well with appetizers, so the landlords used to place a slice of bread, with some ham or cheese to cover the mouth of the glass in order to keep the flies out of ones glass.
